CPD Website
Developing our candidates is key to our success. Reed Nurse is committed to both Post Registration Education and Practice (PREP) and Life Long Learning (LLL). We do this through our proactive approach to your career development and encourage you to build skills by providing opportunities for training and personal development.
With this in mind and in light of the PREP requirements for re-registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Reed Nurse are working in partnership with nursing training providers throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland, to develop a comprehensive, cost-effective solution to facilitate an individual’s Mandatory Training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Reed Nurse now offers a unique service that will enable all nursing professionals, at all levels and across all the specialities, to search, identify and select courses that they are interested in attending.
Visit our website, browse the courses, register your interest and we will organise the rest! The courses are organised by a number of established and respected providers across the professions. Many of the courses are offered at a specially discounted rate exclusive to Reed Nurse.
Some of current training partners include The Royal College of Nursing, HITTS/Midwives Online, CB Nursing Updates, Journal of Community Nursing, EMAP Open Healthcare Learning, Healthcare Events and Williams and Associates.
Our courses are available to everyone at all professional levels. Managers and head of departments can also use this resource to send members of staff on identified courses and can even host some of the courses locally.
The Open University
As part of our comprehensive CPD package, we have developed a close relationship with The Open University's School of Health and Social Welfare, the UK's largest provider of education and training for health and social care. The Open University's unique method of study is ideally suited, we believe, to our philosophy and the needs of our candidates.
The OU programmes allow you to study in your own time, with the support of top quality teaching materials, a personal tutor, regular assessments and feedback to aid your progress. The courses can be tailored to accommodate your own particular circumstances and there are very few restrictions on the time it takes to complete a qualification. Most courses can be studied individually, perhaps for professional updating in a specific area, or they can be studied in combination, enabling you to create a diploma or degree profile according to your needs and interests.
Employees of Reed Nurse are eligible for a special discount of 10%* on Open University health and social welfare courses.

NMC Guidelines on PREP
PREP is a set of legal NMC standards and guidance that is designed to help you provide the best possible care for patients and clients. It will help you keep you up to date with new developments and enables you to demonstrate to your patients or clients that you are keeping up to date and developing your practice.
The NMC believes that you are the best person to decide what learning you need to undertake and so PREP is entirely up to you how to meet the standards.
In order to renew your registration every three years the Notification of Practice form (NOP) asks you to declare that you have met the PREP requirements.
The two PREP standards which can affect registration is the Practice Standard and the CPD standard.
The CPD standard is to:
- Undertake at least five days or 35 hours of learning activity relevant to your practice during the three years prior to your renewal of registration. The learning hours must fall within the registration period.
- Maintain a personal professional profile of your learning activity
- Comply with any request from the NMC to audit how you have met these requirements
You must comply with the CPD standard in order to maintain your NMC registration.
The learning activity undertaken must be relevant to your practice- there is no such thing as approved PREP (CPD) learning activity. You do not need to collect points or certificates of attendance. In your profile, you must document all relevant learning activity and the way it has informed and influenced your practice.
(The NMC have provided guidance and a template on organising your profile)
